Malta's fuels stored overseas amount to between 52 and 104 days' supply in various categories, Finance Minister Tonio Fenech told Labour MP Owen Bonnici in reply to a parliamentary question last week.

The country has 12,000 tons of fuel in category 1 (60 days), 36,000 tons in category 2 (52 days) and 150,000 tons in category 3 (104 days).

According to Legal Notice 426/2007, to which the categories refer, every EU member state must have at least 90 days' supply in reserve for each category. The rest of the fuel to make up the 90 days' supply in each category is stored in Malta.
