An eight-year concession for a temporary marina in Kalkara was signed yesterday between Transport Malta and Kalkara Marina Co. Ltd.

The marina, which will be located between Villa Bighi and Villa Portelli, will accommodate up to 120 yachts when the required infrastructure is put in place. The pontoon infrastructure will be installed when the permits are issued by the Malta Environment and Planning Authority.

Kalkara Marina Co. will provide a range of services such as berthing assistance, supply provision and other ancillary services. It will pay Transport Malta €20,000 annually over the eight-year period.

The site was identified by Transport Malta as suitable for developing a temporary marina when it published the study Development Of Yachting Facilities In Malta in April last year.

The Malta Maritime Authority issued a call for proposals to manage and operate the marina last December. The call closed on January 22.
