Turtle dove, quail, golden plover and song thrush can be hunted during given periods in autumn following the approval of a derogation, the government said yesterday.

Turtle dove and quail can be hunted from September 1 to October 30 and golden plover and song thrush between October 20 and January 10, the government said.

Overall, hunting is allowed from September 1 to January 31, starting two hours before sunrise until two hours after sunset from Monday to Saturday. On Sundays and public holidays hunting can commence two hours before sunrise and end at 1 p.m.However, to protect birds of prey, hunting is forbidden from land after 3 p.m. from September 15 to 30.

Hunting at sea is allowed from October 1 to January 31.
