The annual general meeting of three of the four standing committees representing the clubs in all divisions of the MFA leagues took place over the past few weeks.

The Premier League Clubs Standing Committee are yet to hold their annual general meeting but it has become common practice for this entity to automatically confirm the top officials from the previous season.

Hibs president Tony Bezzina has been at the helm of the Premier League Clubs Standing Committee for several years. The post of secretary was occupied by Ħamrun Spartans official Victor Cassar last season.

Joe Sammut, the Pietà Hotspurs official, will continue to head the Division One Clubs Standing Committee. Michael Cutajar, of St George's, is the committee's secretary.

The most notable change occurred in Division Two where Bjorn Vassallo, of San Ġwann FC, was elected president of the standing committee.

Vassallo, the right-hand man of Malta FA presidential candidate Norman Darmanin Demajo and a member of the Executive Committee, defeated Joe Baldacchino, of Birżebbuġa St Peter's, in the vote for the top seat.

Gżira United official Tyrone Demanuele holds the post of secretary.

In Division Three, Joe Farrugia, the president of Kirkop United, received another mandate to serve as head of the standing committee of the clubs in the bottom tier of Maltese football.

Stefan Vella, of Fgura United, also retained his post as secretary.

With the ballot for the MFA presidency just three weeks away, the outcome of the elections of committee members at club level as well as those of the standing committees were closely scrutinised by the camps of the two declared candidates, namely Joe Mifsud, the current incumbent, and Darmanin Demajo.

Three years ago, Dr Mifsud narrowly defeated Darmanin Demajo, the former Malta FA treasurer, 52-49.

The lobbying for votes is set to intensify over the next three weeks amid increasing reports that a significant number of clubs have changed their delegates and council members in view of the upcoming elections for the top positions within the MFA.
