The Senglea Nursery this week launched its summer sports activities. Stephen Spiteri, the enterprising president of the nursery, said the activities are open to the locality's youngsters under the age of 16.

This year, the Senglea Nursery is also encouraging children in Cottonera to join their swimming and waterpolo training sessions.

The summer programme, which is spread over six weeks, is being organised for the third successive year. Over 80 youngsters took part in last year's activities.

Spiteri explained that the nursery first embarked on this project two years ago, adding that he was delighted that their drive to attract youngsters to sport has earned recognition from the Youth FA.

The Senglea Nursery was named as Malta's best with regards to the organisation of summer activities and was also awarded the top prize by UEFA for this initiative.

This year, the Senglea Nursery's summer bonanza includes board games, swimming races, sprints, basketball shoot-outs, penalty shoot-outs, playstation tournaments, billiards and table soccer.

Participation in these activities is free and all participants will be presented with a memento while the winners will receive a trophy.

In addition to the summer games, the Senglea Nursery is also offering lessons in swimming, regatta, boċċi, tuition in music and, for the first time, dancing lessons.
