BRM Virtu Ferries Racing Team driver Gianluca Dingli has just taken part in the Rotax Max Challenge race at the Kartodromo Triscina, in Castelvetrano, Sicily.
Dingli, who is looking to hone his experience on the international scene, was confident of having a good race as his kart was readied in time after three days of testing and fine-tuning. However, luck was not on his side.
He started the pre-final from fourth place after the qualifying session for pole position.
Dingli immediately shot to the front and dominated the race for the next seven laps.
Trouble struck, however, when a hub broke, forcing him to retire in lap eight.
In the following day's final, he started off from last place but that did not deter Dingli and after two laps he had already forced his way to fourth.
He then overtook the driver in front of him but misfortune struck again when he was hit hard in a racing mishap.
In the end, he was deprived of a place on the podium and had to settle for fourth place.
Dingli's participation is supported by Virtu Ferries, Alberta, Chevron Dealer, Badger Karting, Viking Signs and the Rabat Local Council.
