Two valleys near Mellieħa have been declared scheduled properties in terms of the Planning Development Act.

The valleys will be designated as sites of high landscape value, while the valleys - of Wied il-Miżieb and Wied tax-Xaqrani - and the sandarac gum tree population will be listed as level one areas of ecological importance and sites of scientific importance.

The steep slope in Wied il-Miżieb will be listed as a level two site of scientific importance.
