Columnist Daphne Caruana Galizia was fined €700 yesterday for not paying value added tax in a case that had been ongoing for the past six years.

Ms Caruana Galizia yesterday apologised for not turning up at the last sitting, saying she was abroad. She said the VAT due had not been paid because she left the matter to somebody else, who did not follow instructions.

The matter would be settled immediately, she said.
