A petrol station attendant was jailed for two years after admitting to stealing two mobile phones from a beach two days ago.

Rona Galea, 30, of Siġġiewi, was also charged with breaching her probation conditions, which were imposed last month when she admitted to stealing jewellery from her mother. Exhibiting the phones stolen at Għajn Tuffieħa, Police Inspector Edmond Cuschieri, said the accused had admitted to a drug addiction when questioned.

He asked that she be jailed immediately so she could attend rehabilitation.

Lawyer Godfrey Gauci Maistrè, for Ms Galea, did not object but asked for the minimum term possible.

Magistrate Gabriella Vella re-commended that Ms Galea follows a rehabilitation programme.

The mobile phones will be returned to their owners.
