The 81-year-old man who died when a yacht crashed into his boat two days had suffered asphyxia due to drowning, the police said.

The autopsy was held yesterday.

The man fell into the sea as a result of the impact and was rescued by an AFM launch after assistance by the yacht. He was rushed to Mater Dei Hospital where efforts to save him failed.

It had earlier been reported in a preliminary statement by the AFM that the man died from cardiac arrest.

The accident happened at around 10 a.m.half a mile off Tigne' .
