Eleven local councils have been allocated a total of €8.3million under two EU rural areas improvements programmes, Parliamentary Secretary Chris Said announced this evening.

He was speaking during the swearing in of the successful candidates in the elections for the appointment of committees to run hamlets in various localities in Malta and Gozo.

The funds have been granted as follows: Kirkop, 1,583,265; Munxar €168,989; Zurrieq €267,213; Dingli €269,014; Kirkop (under the second programme); €1,663,603; Birzebbugia €34,279; Iklin €213,215; San Lawrenz €1,407,004; Munxar, €77,328; Zurrieq, €192,198; Gharb, €1,666,829; Mosta, €500,910; Sannat, €56,440; Qala, €50,515 and Dingli €269,014

A further €1.9 million are on the reserve list and may be granted to St Paul's Bay, Birebbugia, San Lawrenz, Gharb, Mosta, San Gwann, Ghajnsielem, Sannat, Qala, Gharghur and Mqabba councils .
