Gozo Channel's ferries made fewer trips between Ċirkewwa and Mġarr in the second quarter of this year when compared to the same period last year but they still managed to carry 4.7 per cent more passengers.

The National Statistics Office said Gozo Channel carried 1,055,740 passengers between March and June, making 4,892 trips in all - down 0.4 per cent.

Last month accounted for the most trips during the second quarter, with 1,697 (34.7 per cent) of the total, as well as for the largest number of passengers, with 372,194 commuters making up 35.3 per cent.

The number of vehicles carried went up by 1.8 per cent to stand at 279,358.
