A woman who today was charged with stealing jewellery from her mother, was remanded in custody after the police reported that they only found a few of the items reported missing.

Charmaine Camilleri, 39 of St Paul's Bay, pleaded not guilty to stealing the jewellery from her mother and being a relapser.

Prosecuting inspectors Therese Sciberras and Robert Vella said in court that that the case took place last week shortly after Ms Camilleri, who suffered a drug problem, was released from prison. They said that the woman had had previous problems with her mother, but the mother still accepted her back.

Shortly after, the mother reported that jewellery worth some €9,000 had been reported missing.

The police searched a flat where the daughter had lived just for a day and found a watch and a necklace belonging to the mother. They were worth some €2,300.

They also found drug-related items and €300 in cash. A magisterial inquiry was launched.
