The warm Maltese people
On June 28, while on holiday in Malta, my wife slipped and fell in Spinola Bay and broke her arm. A number of people came to our aid then and during the rest of our holiday and I would have liked to have thanked them all personally. Since that was not possible, I would like to say a sincere thank you to all via this newspaper.
I feel a special thank you is due to the gentleman who was working on a boat near the slipway and ran to the police station to call an ambulance, offered us water, found the owners of vehicles which were blocking the ambulance access and then wished us well.
Also the kindness of the ambulance staff, the staff at the Mater Dei Hospital, the taxi driver who carefully returned us to our hotel and the staff at the Radisson Blu Resort who made our remaining holiday as pleasant as possible.
This, once again, has reinforced our feeling of Malta and its people.

When an accident happens while you are on holiday the trauma is so much bigger. I'm glad you found the help you needed and appreciate your taking the time to express your thanks

A letter like this is worth more than all the fancy adverts for our islands. If only the same 'acts of random kindness' are continually extended by everyone to tourists and locals alike, the other challenges we have (and there are many) will pale into insignificance.
