May I remind the present members of Parliament that neither the Nationalist Party in government nor the Labour Party in opposition has a mandate from the electorate to introduce divorce.
In the absence of such a mandate, if the divorce issue were to be pursued further, the question on whether or not divorce should form part of our statute book should be put to the people in a national referendum.
If the Bill is moved in Parliament, MPs voting for divorce will only be pursuing their own agenda and not their party's or the electorate's.
The MP who proposed the draft Bill has surpassed the powers delegated to him and his party by the electorate in the last general election. He should, therefore, resign immediately or be forced by his party to resign immediately.
