Maltese athletes end with a flourish

Maltese athletes had good cause for celebration yesterday after winning seven medals on the final day of the 62nd FISEC Games in Tours.

Thomas Farrugia procured Malta's best result of the day when he won gold in the 400 metres race while Marija Sciberras took silver in the 100m hurdles.

In the relay events, the boys' 4x100 metres quartet took the silver medal while their female counterparts finished third in their final.

Jessica Gauci placed fourth in the shot put.

In the team competitions, Malta finished third in the boys section and fourth in the girls category.

In the swimming events held yesterday, the Malta A team, formed by Talisa Pace, Rhea Cutajar, Michela Millo and Nikki Muscat won a silver medal while the boys quartet of Mark Sammut, Daniel Galea, Gabriel Pace and Matthew Zammit finished third.

The girls basketball team finished sixth overall after they beat Spain B 43-39 yesterday.

In the table tennis competitions, Andrea Portelli and Marcus Portelli drew with Holland and then had the better of India.
