The International Ocean Institute recently established the Elisabeth Mann Borgese Bursary, consisting of the annual award of €3,950 to a person or research team carrying out postgraduate studies or research in ocean-, marine- or maritime-related studies at the University of Malta over the period of a year.

The bursary was established to further acknowledge the role and considerable achievements of IOI founder Elisabeth Mann Borgese, as well as to recognise Malta as the host country of the IOI.

At the end of the bursary period, the awardee is to present a brief or paper on the research done. This may be published in IOI's Ocean Yearbook and may also form the basis of a public presentation held as part of IOI's World Ocean Day celebration.

The bursary is financed through the IOI's Women, Youth and the Sea programme and the application deadline is July 30. For more information and application forms visit www.ioinst.org or e-mail ioihq@ioihq.org.mt.
