Mgarr farmers revisit traditions
Mgarr farmers yesterday evening took visitors on a trip down memory lane as they took part in a large scale re-enactment of the traditional wheat harvesting, threshing and winnowing by hand, using authentic tools and in period costumes. Indigenous Maltese farm animals were also used.
Exhibits featuring the Imgarr rural trades of the past, such as sheep wool weaving, agricultural tools and machinery, hand made fishing nets, wicker baskets and more were on show.
Local produce, including home made wine, 'gbejniet' (sheep milk cheeselets), olive oil, honey, traditional delicacies and seasoning herbs were on sale.

"re-enactment of the traditional wheat harvesting, threshing and winnowing by hand, using authentic tools and in period costumes"
Did anyone who attend this festival see the above? We were there early till 10pm but didn't see such re-enactment was carried out except 3 or 4 old little equipment being placed at the tent.

@MAx Farrugia u Jesmond Micallef, sewwa qed tghidu hemm bzonn aktar programmi bhal dawn. Niskanta kif attivitajiet bhal dawn ma jsirux flimkien ma xi stazzjon tat-T.V. lokali bhal ma jghamlu it-Taljani fil-programmi taghhom linea verde u linea blu. Veru li jinvolvi hafna xoghol imma issa li l-bazi u aktar qieghed hemm nistaw inkomplu nizvillupaw. L-Mgarr huwa ezempju car ta kemm ghandna x'nofru f'dan is-settur. dawn fost attivitajiet oħra jorganizza, attivita meta il-frawli tkun f'aqwa taghha, kompetizjoni tal-imbid lokali, u attivitajiet oħra. Zgur li l-istat jaghti finanzi ghal attivitajiet bhal dawn.

Hemm huma il Maltin !! Prosit hafna tassew. Kemm hu sabih tisma dak il Malti mitkellem min dawn il bdiewa Maltin. Naqbel ma Max Farrugia. Il prodott Malti ghandu jigi stmat b'mod specjali fi swieqi barranin. Malta qeda fl' unjoni ewropea le.
Attivitajiet bhall dawn huma wkoll edukativi kemm ghall kbar kif wkoll ghaz zghar. Il mara Maltija dejjem hadmet f'dal il qassam flimkien ma ragel b'mod ugwali u din hija verita li xi kultant il Maltin jinseww meta jibdew jitkellmhu fuq l'ugwaljanza moderna !!
Prosit tassew lil Mgarrin.

Such activities should be encouraged and applauded. They give an insight on the work the farmer does and the importance of such an industry. I don't agree with the commment that indigenous Maltese farm animals were also used. From what I could see in the video (i was not present and therfore i stand to be corrected) The only farm animal which could be called indigenous was the donkey, the other animals are not indigenous by any means...we have no indigenous pigs...if any remained since prehistory threy were all slaughtered during the African swine fever outbreak back in the 70's, we have nothing such as an indigenous breed of turkey, and the cow!!! Oh my GOD!!! that was a Jersey cow or a cross thereof! what about the Mlatese OX? The aim of these activities is to teach poeple about our heritage!! I expect at least that the information and message given is correct.

proset lil kull min ha sehem biex tigi organizza din l-attivita. Uliedna zgur jiehdu gost jaraw id-differenza bejn il-bierah u llum, filwaqt li t-turist japprezza ħafna dawn l-attivitajiet. Attivitajiet simili jista isiru fuq bazi regionali bil-participazzjoni ta numru ta kunsillil lokali, u jkunu imferxa fuq jumejn tnejn jew tlieta. Xi haga ta importanza hija li dawn l-attivitajiet ghandhom jinghataw aktar promozzjoni ghax b'hekk il-prodott lokali jsir aktar marghuf u jzied fil-bejgh. Sar zvillup kbir f'dan il-qasam imma nistaw inkomplu intejbu.
