SafeMed II highlights latest project developments

In the third edition of its e-quarterly 'The SafeMed Beacon - Le Phare', the SafeMed II Project, an EU-funded MEDA regional project, implemented in the Mediterranean by the Regional Marine Pollution Emergency Response Centre for the Mediterranean Sea, has highlighted its latest milestones.

The fifth Meeting of the Maritime Safety Sub Group of the Maritime Transport Working Group of the EuroMed Transport Forum discussed vessel traffic monitoring systems, the automatic identification system, and the possible sharing of AIS data among the project's beneficiaries.

The meeting was organised under the auspices of the co-presidency of the Union for the Mediterranean at the European Maritime Safety Agency in Lisbon.

Details have also been published about the extension of specific SafeMed II activities for the four Western Balkan States and partners in the framework of the Union for the Mediterranean, namely Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia and Montenegro, and the promotion of seafarers' rights and conditions by SafeMed.

The conferment of a Masters of Law in International Maritime Law on a SafeMed sponsored student by the IMO Secretary-General and the Regional Workshop on the Implementation of Annexes II and III of the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships also feature.
