Citadel Insurance plc recently extended its travel insurance policy to provide cover following the cancellation of a trip due to extreme weather conditions or natural catastrophes occurring.

"Following the recent wave of travel disruptions and cancellations due to the presence of an ash cloud, it was fitting for Citadel to offer clients the opportunity to purchase insurance cover in the full knowledge that should similar unforeseen events occur and the client is either compelled to cancel the trip or is indeed stranded, compensation is available," said Rein Caruana, divisional head of business development.

The extension in cover provides a maximum amount of €2,500 per person in respect of prepaid and unrecoverable travel and accommodation charges as well as costs in respect of reasonable travel and accommodation expenses to a forced extension of the trip.
