The English Premier League 2010/2011 season will kick off at White Hart Lane with Tottenham vs Man. City.

The fixture is a rematch of a crucial game towards the end of last season, when visitors Spurs beat City 1-0 at Eastlands to win the race for a Champions League spot.

The opening Premier League fixture will kick off at 12.45 p.m. on August 14.

Arsenal's visit to Liverpool, in Roy Hodgson's first Premier League game in charge of the Reds, has been moved back to August 15.

The last game of the opening weekend will be Newcastle's trip to Manchester United, which takes place on August 16.

Lahm wants to keep armband

Germany skipper Philipp Lahm warned Michael Ballack that he wants to remain captain of the national side after the World Cup.

"The captain's role has brought me a lot of pleasure. It's a real joy. Why would I want to give it back?" the Bayern Munich full-back told reporters.

Lahm is set to earn his 71st cap tonight when he leads Germany out for the semi-final against Spain, having taken over as captain when Ballack was forced to miss the World Cup through injury.

"I'd love to keep the armband, I want more responsibilities. But we will see what happens."

Lahm, at 26, is seven years younger than Ballack, who has won 98 caps but whose international future is in doubt.

Kolarov can go says Lazio boss

Lazio president Claudio Lotito is ready to negotiate Aleksandar Kolarov's departure provided the right offer comes along.

The Serbia international is under contract for a further season with the Serie A outfit and is a reported target of Manchester City and Real Madrid.

"Kolarov is not a free agent," Lotito said.

"If it was down to me, I would not sell him. But if he wants to leave, he needs to bring an offer from a team that grants a fair economic solution."

Reports in Italy claim Lazio turned down a £12m bid from Real Madrid earlier this month to sign the 24-year-old left back.

Inter reject City's bid for Balotelli

Inter have turned down an offer for striker Mario Balotelli from Manchester City, according to the player's representative.

Balotelli was dropped from the team for several games earlier this year by former coach Jose Mourinho because of his poor attitude.

However, the 19-year-old has three years left on his contract and is set to remain at the San Siro.

"Was there a real offer from City? Yes, there was but it is not for me to say," Balotelli's agent Mino Raiola said.

"Mario Balotelli's situation is calm. He is an Inter player. There are no negotiations, hence, he will remain at Inter."

Bendtner struggling with groin injury

Nicklas Bendtner could be a doubt for the start of Arsenal's season after he failed to fully recover from the persistent groin injury which dogged him throughout the 2009/10 campaign.

The 22-year-old striker underwent surgery on his injured groin in November last year but it failed to completely eradicate the problem and he subsequently missed both the end of the Premier League season as well as the start of Denmark's World Cup campaign.

He said: "I still feel quite bad in my groin.

"Sadly it hasn't been better during my holiday and that worries me a lot. I have spoken to Arsenal throughout the holiday and I am having a big scan when I return this week."

Everton first for Aussie Cahill

Tim Cahill insisted he is putting Everton first as he returned Down Under for a tour with the Premier League side.

The 30-year-old Australian, who endured a mixed World Cup campaign with a controversial red card in the opening loss to Germany before scoring in the defeat of Serbia, returns to action on Saturday when Everton take on A-League champions Sydney FC.

Cahill will be 34 when the World Cup next takes place and asked about his aspirations to take part in the tournament in Brazil, he said: "My main focus now is Everton.

"I think as long as I stay fit and keep playing consistently then I'll be happy - we'll see what happens in four years."

Heskey backs Delfouneso

Emile Heskey has predicted a "great future" for young Aston Villa striker Nathan Delfouneso, who will spearhead England's attack in the U-19 Euro Championships this summer.

England coach Fabio Capello has said he will be putting the accent on younger players as he looks to rebuild after a disastrous World Cup campaign.

And Heskey believes Delfouneso is an exciting prospect.

Heskey said: "Nathan has done really well. He has not had that many chances to come on and play but, when he has, he has shown what he is capable of.

"He is a good player for the future. He got himself involved in the England set-up from an early age. He is a great prospect and he has got a great career ahead of him."
