Two Hamrun men remanded in custody for theft

Two men from Hamrun, Gordon Dimech, 33, and Christian Tanti, 24, were this afternoon remanded in custody after they pleaded not guilty to stealing €18,000 in cash and €2,000 worth of gold from their friend’s father.

The police are alleging that the 19-year-old friend supplied the two men with the keys, information of how to get into the house and when and from where to steal the money and gold.

Defence lawyer Joe Giglio said the 19-year-old could not be trusted and was using the two men as scapegoats.

He said the 19-year-old could not be arraigned as the father did not want to press charges against his son so the police had to waiver them.
