SmartCity unveils two new office blocks
An artist's impression of the office blocks that will form a section of Smart City Malta.
SmartCity Malta has 'unveiled' two new office blocks, SCM02 and SCM03 as work continues at a fast pace at Ricasoli.
In a statement issued in Dubai, SmartCity said the blocks have dual frontages with their main lobbies facing the urban ring road and retail promenade. An expansive atrium connecting both buildings forms a gateway leading into the central lagoon retail district.
SmartCity said the buildings are designed as a continuous curved trapezoid offering uninterrupted panoramic views of the lagoon district. Their proximity to SCM01 creates an ideal cluster concept and synergy between the buildings.
From the third level onwards, SCM02 and SCM03 are bridged together into a unified structure of seven floors. The ground floors on both buildings are dedicated retail spaces with their upper floors catering to office space.
The buildings’ envelope is composed of curtain walls sun shading devices and stone cladding. Such systems will exhibit a large range of performance, in terms of thermal insulation, visible light transmittance and solar factor maintaining SCM01’s green building approach.

It just baffles me how on the eve of the official opening of SmartCity Malta, scheduled for 10.10.2010 that there has been no breaking news that the company has managed to attract some form of large foreign entity in the ICT sector to start operating from its premises. I wish I'm wrong but unless we hear of some news soon we could be heading for an opening of an vacant office block - and a smart one at that.
It bewilders me more so how the Government through its Investment Promotion arm, namely Malta Enterprise is about to make substantial investments, even with aid from the EU, to build a life sciences park and a Corporate Village which in turn will surely compete for the same space with SmartCity.
While it is a known fact that good office space in Malta is very limited the scale of the operations earmarked for the non-distant future are about to cause an incredible oversupply of real estate, unless we already have takers for this space. I hope that the underlying fundamentals of these projects are based on solid ground otherwise we could be in for a nasty surprise.

Are there any Job vacancies offers??
It would have been a better news than hearing that blocks are ready. But when will they be filled and by who?
We need more competitive companies.

@ Jesmond Abela
I heard it at the _meetings_. I think Gonzi is the one who should shut up now. I'm definitely not voting for him again.

It would be good to know if there have been any takers for the first building. No secrets I would assume. The Airport Business Park announced Vodafone. Who are the anchor tenants for SmartCity?
