The son of a woman who died in a hotel pool in St Paul’s Bay is calling for any information on the circumstances leading to the tragedy,

Janet Amey, 68 of Southampton, died in the swimming pool of the Dolmen Hotel on June 13.

Her son, Mark, told timesofmalta.com that while it had been reported that his mother died after finding herself in difficulty, it was not known what actually happened.

“My mother was seen, face down in the water, by a little boy. She must have been like that for quite a number of minutes because attempts to revive her did not succeed,” Mr Amey said.

“No one can put an exact time when she was last seen in the hour before her death,” he said.

Mr Amey said it had been confirmed that his mother did not have a heart attack. She did not appear to have fallen into the pool, nor was she drunk or taking pills.

“This is proving to be very difficult to come to terms with.

“In such a busy hotel as the Dolmen at such a peak time of the day, there must have been someone who could have seen what happened.”

H said that anyone having information was being invited to phone him on 00447980695239.

Mr Amey also thanked the retired British firefighter who tried for up to 45 minutes to revive his mother as soon as she was pulled out of the pool.

Mrs Amey was a regular visitor to Malta and had previously lived here for some time.
