Ingrid Desira Buttigieg recently obtained a Masters degree in choreography from the Fontys Professional University in The Netherlands.

The two-and-a-half year course presented an intense programme of core theoretical and practical modules. Areas such as the craft of choreography, dance collaboration and devising, theoretical frameworks, technology and experimental choreography and artist as researcher were covered.

For her dissertation, Ms Desira Buttigieg researched the development of classical ballet in Malta from 1964 to 2004, the first such documentation of classical dance in Malta.

Ms Desira Buttigieg started her dance training at the Lilian Attard Ballet Studio in St Julian's. She obtained her Teaching Certificate Specialising in the Teaching of Children in 1988.

In 2001 she completed a degree in Bachelor of Philosophy (Hons) in Ballet and Contextual Studies at the University of Durham.

Since 1988, she has been the principal and artistic director of Dance Academy, Attard. The school offers students the possibility to learn classical ballet, modern, jazz and Spanish.

The school prepares students for the children's and major examinations of the Royal Academy of Dance, the Ceccehtti Society, the Modern Branch of the Imperial Society of Teachers' of Dance and the Spanish Dance Society.
