A science project entitled 'The Sea Squill' developed by San Andrea Senior School Grade 11 (Form 4) students Martina Cilia, Claire Vella, Yazmin Zoe Helledie and Joanna Frederica Farrugia, has won the 2009-2010 Stephen Hawking Science and Technology Project.

The project, which forms part of science education at the school, has been running for 10 years and is aimed at motivating students to learn and develop academic thought as well as skills such as teambuilding, public speaking and how to develop a research programme.

The theme for this year's projects was 'The What, the How and the Why of...', and the students had to propose a topic to research and expound on.

A panel of judges composed of external science educational leaders reviewed the work developed by the shortlisted teams and selected the winning project.
