On June 28 we were saddened to hear of the passing away of George Micallef at the age of 76. He was one of the senior members of Neptunes WPSC, almost an institution at the club. Besides his wife Aida, brother and sisters and numerous relatives he left to mourn his loss a multitude of friends who came across his path in life.
George, affectionately known as il-Ġus, was a very jovial and likeable character and was one of the mainstays at the club when the original concrete clubhouse was being built. He was very popular in his hey-days. He did anything that the club needed him to do... whether it was organising the fortnightly discos, managing the bar or attending to all other arising odd duties.
Indeed, although lately he was not frequenting the club as much as in his younger days, his occasional visit was very welcome since it sparked memories among elderly members of the simple yet happy years which were part and parcel of life down at Balluta Bay.
George will be sorely missed by all those who knew him.
May you rest in peace, George.
