MUT registers industrial dispute with the government

The Malta Union of Teachers has registered an industrial dispute with the government as talks for a sectoral agreement for educational grades have failed, the union said.

It said in a statement that following a marathon of meetings, the government did not accept its request to address the anomalies which origianlly led the union to declare a dispute in 2007.

It said although the government did not want to budge from its position, it was still leaving the door open to dialogue.

Why split hairs ? Some schoold stop before the 12th July. but that is of no difference. 12th July or the 1st.July that is still much much longer than the winter leave you asked. for 28 days are much ,much less than what you get. Got it ? You forgot to mention that you have shorter hours throughout the year.

Reading your comments one wonders why you don't change jobs. You sound pretty clever so you won't find it that hard to qualify. I am asking you in all seriousness, apply for a teaching post and benefit from all the goodies. You know that I only asked for Winter leave as a hypotetical question in the event that the authorities concede to your plea and give teachers work during the Summer. Finally, Those who think that teachers are having it too good can solve this problem by keeping their children at home and educating them themselves. It sholdn't be that hard, I mean a teacher has to deal with 25 to 30 students all from different backgrounds and educational levels. Teaching your own children should be a breeze.

Yours is an old misconception Mr. Farrugia. One which you should have sorted out long ago!

And what would you suggest? And will the teachers be offered leave like other workers during the Winter? perhaps then you will volunteer to stay in class with the students. And by the way teachers are not doing nothing during the loooooong 'holidays' they are preparing for the next scholastic year and many are involved in Summer schools. But you wouldn't know that would you? You would only become aware of a teacher's commitment by joining the teaching profession so I extend an invitation.

MR.Borg I do cordially invite you to "do nothing" at any school in Malta, and see how that feels. Just for one week. Then see how "doing nothing" feels and comment! If anyone needed an example of an insulting comment, yours is the best example!

So now they have up to end September to settle this dispute. Let us hope that by then no industrial actions will be availed of.

@ David Gauci: It seems that it doesn't bother you in the least what the teachers' problem is ... that is, as long as your children are not hit by their industrial action. How's that for good citizenship, eh? What a bunch of nutty hypocrites and egoists we have in this country! NIMBYs indeed!
