The police have arrested three persons following the discovery of 20 kilogrammes of cannabis resin at Xemxija, limits of St Paul's Bay, yesterday morning.

The police said the discovery was the climax of investigations that followed a tip-off that drugs were probably being brought into the island from Xemxija.

The information supplied to the police was investigated with the assistance of the Armed Forces Maritime Squadron and yesterday they found three men in possession of the drugs.

The arrested persons are a 34-year-old resident of Iklin, a 39-year-old Libyan and another Libyan aged 46 who resides here.

Magistrate Claire Stafrace Zammit appointed a team of court experts to help in an inquiry.
