French coach Didier Deschamps has extended his contract at Ligue 1 champions Olympique Marseille, brushing aside interest from English Premiership club Liverpool.

Marseille president Jean-Claude Dassier, who revealed last week that Liverpool were interested in Deschamps, announced that the former French World Cup-winning captain had agreed to extend his contract beyond 2011.

"I am pleased to announce that Didier has signed for an extra year," Dassier said.

Liverpool, seeking to replace Rafael Benitez, had asked to speak to Deschamps last week.

"Liverpool were serious and I was worried," Dassier said at a press conference. "But I can now confirm this excellent news."

Deschamps said that after a period of reflection he had decided to stay at Marseille because "there is still work to be done here."
