Transport Malta said today that it had started works on a new pier at Comino’s Blue Lagoon. The works are expected to last around two weeks and every effort will be made to avoid any inconvenience to bathers, boat users and passenger ferry operators, the Authority said.

The previous pier - actually a pontoon - had toppled over in July last year, injuring two people. The new pier will consist of a removable structure mounted on pillars finished with a wooden deck.

The authority said the works on the new pier could not start earlier because of the required MEPA permits and the conclusion of procurement process. Delays due to inclement weather were also experienced.
