Technophobia in football

There are those who embrace technology and move forward with the times and those who are scared of it and remain stuck in a time-warp. I've read somewhere that when the first car appeared, a horse-rider challenged the car driver to a race! Very soon...

There are those who embrace technology and move forward with the times and those who are scared of it and remain stuck in a time-warp.

I've read somewhere that when the first car appeared, a horse-rider challenged the car driver to a race! Very soon this horse-rider got his comeuppance as new cars came to be valued by their "horsepower" (talk about taking the mickey) but no horse would race against them!

This brings us to modern technophobes who refuse to accept technology for as long as possible only to be steamrollered by it.

In this World Cup, as in the past, referees are making mistakes. We all do. It's a human trait. Modern technology can minimise those mistakes or blunders. Nowadays we have a plethora of gimmicks and gizmos to record sport and to freeze it, save it, rewind it, replay in slow-motion, and even to superimpose a flower on a ball that crossed the line in a blink of an eye if need be. So why not use it? What are they afraid of?

In FIFA there are a lot of fuddy-duddies who behave like little Hitlers and do not listen to reason. But in the end technology will win and when it does these people will look stupid and pathetic like those arrogant and pompous cardinals who ridiculed Galileo Galilei in the Middle Ages.
