Tarxien man seriously injured in swimming incident
A 20-year-old man from Tarxien suffered serious spinal injuries in an incident when he jumped into the sea in Marsaxlokk this morning, the police said.
The incident took place at about 11.45 a.m.
The man was brought ashore by members of the Civil Protection Department and rushed to hospital in an ambulance. He is in intensive care.
A magisterial inquiry is underway.

Although deceptively soft and fluid the surface tension of water can seriously injure the strongest man's vertebral column. An educational campaign highlighting the risks incurred when diving into the water even from a relatively low height will prevent more incidents of this sort.
