The women's national team started their title defence in the European Championship Division C with a comfortable 64-35 win over Scotland, in Armenia, yesterday.

Santino Coppa's girls opened their way for victory in the first two quarters to build a 34-17 lead at half-time. The Maltese team extended that lead by another 10 points in the third quarter before prevailing in a low-scoring last session 9-7.

Malta's leading scorer was Rebecca Brincat Thoresen. She was the match top-scorer with 20 points. Joselle Cardona added 10 points to Malta's tally and Josephine Grima finished with eight.

Malta's next match from Group B will be tomorrow against Wales. The semi-finals will be played on Friday with the final scheduled for Saturday.
