Allow me to welcome the elected members of the Paceville administrative council, ahead of the official start of their tenure on July 1, and wish them well.
They are undoubtedly aware that they are taking over from a local council that totally ignored the very necessary and basic needs of the residents.
Proof, if proof were needed, is the fact that for the past few months there have been no public conveniences, not that there were many previously as only two were available to serve the needs of the many thousands who visit throughout the year.
Inasmuch as, rightly or wrongly, most establishment owners refuse to let anyone use their facilities for non-clients, the solution to an urgent call of nature is to use the outdoor facilities of the residents, and/or the more protected wall belonging to Go plc running all the way into the Mercury House area, where cars are parked and thus offer slight privacy for both sexes. This wall can probably qualify as the largest outdoor public convenience in the world.
I still cannot understand how, for the many years the council has had the present mayor, when asked about the council's performance, most residents would huff and puff and declare that they are not interested and would not be voting. Yet, when given the opportunity to introduce a change in attitude, they remain adamant. Perhaps now that the local council is no longer involved, things will change. What is certain is that they cannot do worse.
