Din l-Art Ħelwa is organising a photographic competition for the marine environment in order to raise awareness about the importance and state of the coastline and surrounding waters of the Maltese islands.

This initiative constitutes part of the Blue Campaign undertaken by the heritage and environmental organisation and is open to all diving schools, clubs, students and the public.

There are two categories for photographic entries: one is for photographs capturing examples of the negative effects of human activity on the sea or the coastline for which underwater filming is not necessary. The second category is for photographs showing the beauty and unique qualities of underwater life. A prize of €250 is to be awarded to each of the winning entries.

The winning applications will be announced on Notte Bianca, which will be held on September 25, at 133 Melita Street, Valletta at 8.30 p.m. As part of the Notte Bianca programme, Din l-Art Ħelwa will be opening its 17th century Palazzo Nobile headquarters to the public where the marine photographic exhibition will be on show.

Applicants are requested to show their interest by writing to Din l-Art Ħelwa, to the attention of Stanley Farrugia Randon, at 133 Melita Street, Valletta, by the end of July, or by sending an e-mail to info@dinlarthelwa.org.

Submissions are to be made by September 9 and are to be sent to the same address. For more information call 2122 5952 or 2122 0358.
