Among the fine pieces of furniture and paintings at the Borg Olivier auction - exhibits go under the hammer this weekend - there is the Independence Prime Minister's personal desk and a silver Malta coat-of-arms (the 1964 one). These items, at least, should be purchased by the state. I understand that, quite rightly, original correspondence and various historic photos are not up for auction.

As George Borg Olivier's biographer (2005) and author of The Origins of Maltese Statehood (1999, 2000), I feel rather strongly about this having visited the Borg Olivier residence, which really could be turned into a political history museum.
