Paraguay coach Gerardo Martino admits his side need to be sharper up front if they are to get through the World Cup first knockout round.

The South Americans face Japan in the last 16 aiming to secure a quarter-final place.

However, they do so on the back of a poor showing in the goalless draw against New Zealand in their final group game.

Martino wants an improvement in Tuesday's big match.

"We were not very mobile and we were quite inaccurate against New Zealand," he told reporters.

"We had a lot of problems in an area where we didn't expect, and that was in attack.

"However, I think Paraguay had an excellent defensive aspect in the three matches, we were very good defensively (conceding only one goal)".
