Finance Minister Tonio Fenech yesterday sought to set the minds of Dragonara Casino Ltd and Casma Ltd that the imminent take-over of the casino would not affect their employment or conditions of work.

Answering a parliamentary question by Labour MP Owen Bonnici, he said it was true that a preferred bidder had been decided on and negotiations were at an advanced stage, but until they were finalised, it would be premature to spell out conditions of work in the new concession.

As per the request for proposals, the new operator would be bound to employ all Dragonara Casino Ltd and Casma Ltd employees. They would also be bound to offer conditions of work that would not be inferior to what the employees had at present, and not to terminate their employment unless for lawful reasons.

The operator would be bound to manage the enterprise to their best judgment, efforts and abilities for efficiency and diligence in order to continue to enhance the enterprise's reputation and attract more clients.
