The new MCM Maintenance Facilities in Luqa were a welcome addition to the fast growing aviation maintenance cluster present in Malta and would be providing services to light executive jets, Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi said this evening when inaugurating the centre.
He described the event as another show of confidence in Malta’s potential and in its workers.
“MCM’s presence here in Malta will in fact compliment a strong and growing aviation cluster. MCM joins other prestigious names in the sector such as Lufthansa Technik, SR Technics and Medavia,” he said.
Dr Gonzi said that in view of the rapid growth of this sector, the government, through Malta Enterprise, was working on a specific aviation park which would further facilitate the expansion of this industry.
“The €17 million investment being made in Safi will be a key element in attracting further investment as companies will be able to take advantage of a clustered environment where all sorts of airplane maintenance services could be located.
“This growing cluster and its potential into the future depends on the availability of skilled human resources.
“Working closely together with industry, our vocational college is pivotal to the success of this sector.
“Our continuous investment in MCAST, with its fully accredited and specialised courses, is not only providing the needed supply of trained labour but is also becoming a determining factor in attracting high value-added investment,” he said.
