Air traffic controllers in Italy planned to strike for four hours between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. today, affecting certain flights, Air Malta said yesterday.

The strike will affect Air Malta flights KM612/3, Malta/Reggio/ Rome return; KM628/9, Malta/ Milan/Malta, and KM638/9, Malta/Torino/Malta.

As a result, alternative arrangements have been made by the airline.

Passengers travelling to Reggio Calabria will be accommodated on KM1308 departing Malta at 9.15 a.m. Passengers flying to Rome are being offered to travel on KM614 to Rome which is planned to operate as per normal schedule departing Malta at 6.15 p.m.

The Amsterdam/Malta flight KM397 will pick up passengers coming to Malta from Rome leaving Fiumicino airport at 2.25 p.m.

Consequently, the Air Malta flight to Manchester KM146/7 will leave Malta at 5.45 p.m. Air Malta flights to and from Torino KM638/9 have been rescheduled to leave Malta at 8.45 p.m. Due to rotation of aircraft the Malta/ Palermo flight KM668/9 will depart at 10.20 p.m.

If the strike is called off, all flights except for two, will operate normally.

One exception is KM 626 to Milan, which has been rescheduled to depart Malta at 7.50 a.m. to enable the aircraft to land before strike action commences.

The other exception is KM627 from Milan, which has been scheduled to leave Malpensa airport as soon as strike action is over at 2.10 p.m. These timings will stand should the strike action be withdrawn.
