The Housing Authority currently has 700 applications from single parents for social housing, Social and Family Affairs Minister Dolores Cristina told Noel Farrugia (PL) in answer to a parliamentary question.
Mr Farrugia had asked if the Housing Authority considered the difficulties of single parents in any special way.
Mrs Cristina said the authority was conscious that there was a personal story behind every application, not just from single parents, and therefore examined every application on an individual basis.
There could be at least three classes of single parenthood, she added. It could be a case of unwanted pregnancy, a break-up of marriage or widowhood.
The Housing Authority's schemes were constantly under review for update with the times.
