Exclusion of Forum from the MCESD constitutes threat from privileged class

The resistance and obstacles to joining the Malta Council for Economic and Social Development facing the group of trade unions known as the Forum constitutes a threat from those social partners that have the interest to exclude it.

The government should take a clear stand on this issue. If its interest is to increase social dialogue in the MCESD, then it should amend the law so that Forum would be eligible to join the MCESD outright and not at someone else's pleasure.

A system based on what the privileged class dictates is nothing but abuse of power.

It would be a good initiative if other trade union organisations already represented in MCESD were to follow the General Workers' Union's example and support the Forum in its plight. Alternattiva Demokratika and the Labour Party had also appealed to the government to allow it to be represented on the MCESD. Żminijietna - Voice of the Left expresses solidarity with the Forum, whose trade unions cover about 12,000 workers.
