Alfa Romeo aficionados gather in Milan today for what is planned to be the largest raduno of Alfisti ever at a weekend of glamorous activities to mark the Italian marque's centenary.

Maltese Alfisti have already participated in two local, high profile activities celebrating the brand's milestone, but exclusive agent Pater Group had another announcement to make this week with the launch of Malta's first e-shop for parts.

Alfa Romeo spare parts, accessories and merchandise are now available for order online, managing director Francesca Mamo told The Times Business. Thousands of items including oils, clothing, styling kits, and personalised accessories, are available for purchase online at www.fiat.com.mt where Fiat parts and accessories are also listed in a wide-ranging catalogue.

Two dedicated portals - www.fiatparts.com.mt and www.alfaparts.com.mt - are to be launched in the next few months. Parts for the group's other major brand Hyundai will be made available at www.hyundai.com.mt or www.hyundaiparts.com.mt in August.

Pater Group is also able to source items not listed in the online catalogues for customers making specific requests, Ms Mamo added.

Items ordered online will be delivered to the customer's address for free and payment can be made on delivery. Customers collecting items personally will be entitled to a 10 per cent discount on final pricing.

Secure online payment gateways are in the pipeline.

Thanks to another facility, Alfa Romeo, Fiat, and Hyundai owners are able to verify details and specifications of their vehicles by simply entering their vehicle's chassis number.

Ms Mamo said the group was encouraged into embarking on the initiative after witnessing customers' increased preference for booking service appointments for cars online and a growing appetite for internet services.

Meanwhile, Pater Group is gearing up for the highly anticipated launch of the Giulietta in the last quarter of the year as the Mito, Alfa Romeo's offering in the small car segment, is "selling well".

Ms Mamo said Alfa Romeo continues to enjoy the support of its loyal Maltese customer base in this niche market in the premium segment.

"As a brand, Alfa Romeo appeals to one's heart," Ms Mamo said. "Its core values stem from two aspects: the badge's track record in racing since the 1920s and its association with such illustrious drivers like Enzo Ferrari, and the expertise and performance derived from racing models. Then there is the beauty of the cars. Alfa Romeo has always engaged top designers from Merosi, to Pininfarina, to Bertone. Over the years, the cars have always conveyed la bella vita, a sporting lifestyle. They bring about so much passion and it is that passion that fuels loyalty."
