Physiotherapists, occupational therapists and driving instructors will be able to obtain qualifications enabling them to assist people with disability through new programmes co-financed by the European Social Fund.

The programmes, announced yesterday, will be run by the National Commission Persons with Disability and include courses, overseas conferences and visits.

They are aimed at addressing mobility issues disabled people face. The three principle themes around which they will be based are wheelchairs and seating, adaptive driving and adaptive equipment.

Education Parliamentary Assistant Stephen Spiteri said the programmes were aimed at helping the disabled live a more comfortable life.
