A programme geared at transfering knowledge and technology between academia and industry has just been announced by the Malta Council for Science and Technology in Kalkara.
The research and innovation programme will fund a number of competitive scientific projects valued at between €50,000 and €200,000 each, making use of a government-allocated sum of €700,000.
The funds will be allocated on the basis of a public call for proposals and an external peer review system.
Council chairman Jeffrey Pullicino Orlando said the programme focused on four priority sectors identified in the National Research and Innovation Strategy - environment and energy resources, ICT, value-added manufacturing, and health and biotechnology.
The council's main remit includes the coordination of EU and international links in science, research and innovation and promoting science popularisation and outreach. It acts as the national advisory body to government on science and technology.
