Seventeen blockbusters are among the 42 films scheduled to be screen this summer.

"This summer's line-up comprises films for all ages and tastes, ranging from adventure, action and animation to thrillers and comedies," Charles Pace, director at KRS Film Distributors said yesterday.

The blockbuster films that will go on the big screen between June 30 and September 29 include Shrek Forever After; Toy Story 3; Eat, Pray, Love; The A-Team; The Expendables; Inception; Karate Kid; Marmaduke; Knight And Day; Cats & Dogs: The Revenge Of Kitty Galore; Killers; Grown-Ups; The Adjustment Bureau; The Last Airbender; Salt; Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps and The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.

Other films expected to prove popular are Brooklyn's Finest, starring Richard Gere, Predators, with Adrien Brody, and The Tournament, featuring Robert Carlyle.

KRS said they would be holding the 15th edition of the National Cinema Day on July 17 and the second Children Cinema Day for this year on September 4.

"In the first six months of this year, KRS released a total of 91 films. The releases comprised 63 US productions, 24 from 10 different countries, including Malta, and four co-productions from Canada, Japan, Australia and the UK, each with US involvement," Mr Pace explained.

In 23 weeks to June 15, nine films topped the weekly box-office chart in Malta. Avatar and Alice In Wonderland occupied the top spot for seven and five weeks respectively, followed by Clash Of The Titans (three weeks) and Sex And The City 2 and Robin Hood (two weeks each). The remaining four films were at the top for one week each.

The statistics indicated that at least 70 per cent of cinemagoers comprised youths.

Action movies were the most popular while comedies, including romantic comedies, placed second, adventure, animation and drama third and thrillers and horrors being the least popular genres.
