Alternattiva Demokratika has urged the government to stop making "excuses" and opt for a more inclusive structure at the Malta Council for Economic and Social Development.

AD was reacting to the government's proposals in reply to a request by the Malta Unions' Forum to form part of the MCESD.

AD chairman Michael Briguglio said the government should stop procrastinating and include the forum in the MCESD immediately.

The Parliamentary Secretary for Public Dialogue, Chris Said is on record saying the government was in favour of Forum's participation but wanted consensus with the other members within MCESD, as this was the spirit of the council.

But Mr Briguglio insisted there was an obvious justification for Forum's presence on the MCESD, pointing out that employers had five representatives whereas workers' unions had four and, therefore, the inclusion of Forum would help achieve greater balance.
