67.2 per cent of Junior Lyceum exam candidates passed their exam, an increase of 0.1 per cent over last year, the Ministry of Education said this morning.
The results are being issued today on SMS. Exam results have also been posted on school notice boards and are being mailed.
A total of 2,990 candidates set for the exam.
The ministry said there were 1,596 boys and 1,394 girls for the exam. The pass rate was 67.5 per cent for the boys and 66.8 per cent for the girls.
There were 60 boys and 87 girls who achieved grade As in all four subjects - Maltese, English, Maths and Religion.
There was no social studies exam this year.
This year was the last time that the Junior Lyceum exam was held.
As from next year schoolchildren will sit for exams which will establish benchmarks as they progress to secondary school.
Resits will be allowed for those who failed this year's exams. The ministry said no one failed solely in Maltese or Religion, but 217 failed in their English exam and 154 were unsuccessful in Maths.
Education Minister Dolores Cristina congratulated the successful children.
