Wow! The recent front page picture of a wooden ship at Senglea shows the ship I had referred to in my letter of June 9, 2009, Gem Of A Ship Should Be On Display. This ship could be seen at the shipyard of Cassar & Cassar at Marsa.
Unfortunately, a few days ago the huge decorated stempost, with its ornate scroll, has been sawn off and the bowsprit broken off. These should be refitted. And it detracts from the view of the whole ship.
I feel that the warehouses at Dock 1 should be cleaned and refurbished, rented out as shops and outlets and with the above attraction it would pull shoppers, visitors and holidaymakers to the area. It could be a catalyst for many more attractions around The Three Cities and Grand Harbour.
"From little acorns, great oak trees grow."
The Prime Minister, Lawrence Gonzi, has asked for "an explosion of ideas". Regeneration of the Grand Harbour has to start somewhere.
